About
About the Ledger
An independent explainer channel about South Asia, built on public data and open about its sources.
The Himalayan Ledger makes short documentaries about the money, resources and decisions that shape South Asia: the river treaty that runs out in December, the smoke that settles over the plain every November, the remittances that keep Nepal's economy running.
The name is the idea. A ledger is where numbers are written down so anyone can check them. Our videos follow one story at a time, and every figure on screen comes with a source and a date.
What you'll find here
Each video on YouTube has a page on this site with:
- the key numbers, each linked to its source;
- our own analysis, with the method and, where we can share it, the data;
- every source we used, the full transcript and any corrections.
How the videos are made
We research and write every script ourselves, from primary documents wherever possible: treaties, government statistics, peer-reviewed studies and satellite data. The narration is an AI-generated voice reading our script. We say so in every video description and on every page. Footage comes from NASA and other public sources, licensed stock and Creative Commons collections, credited on each video's page. Read our editorial standards for the details.
Where to watch
Full videos are on YouTube. Shorter cuts go out on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
