How we check what we say

The rules every Himalayan Ledger video follows, from sourcing to corrections.

Last updated 28 October 2026

Sources

  • Primary documents first. We go to the treaty, the government statistic, the court record or the study itself. When we rely on a news report instead, we name the outlet.
  • Every number is dated. Figures change. Each one on screen and on these pages carries the date of its source, and each video page says when its facts were last checked.
  • Every source is listed. The full list is in the video description and on the video's page, linked to the original wherever it's online.
  • Unverified claims stay out. If we can't confirm a figure at its source, it doesn't go in the video.

Our own analysis

Sometimes we calculate something ourselves, for example counting NASA fire detections inside a province's borders. We label it as our analysis, explain the method on the video's page, note its limits, and publish the data where we can.

Footage and images

Satellite images are labelled with the satellite and the date. Maps use public boundary data. When a stock clip wasn't filmed in the place being discussed, we use it only as general illustration and don't label it as that place. Credits for every clip, photo and music track are on each video's page.

AI and the narration

The voice in our videos is generated by Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, reading a script we research and write ourselves. We disclose this in every video. We don't use AI to invent facts, quotes, footage of real events or people.

Fairness

Many of our stories involve more than one country. We try to give each side's position in its own words, from official statements, and we avoid blaming a group or a country for something the evidence doesn't pin on them. On deaths and disasters we keep the language plain.

Independence

No one pays us to cover a topic, and no one reviews our scripts before publication. If we ever carry sponsorship, we'll say so clearly in the video and on its page, and sponsors will have no say over what we report.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Each video page has a corrections section that records what changed and when. Videos on YouTube can't be edited after publishing, so for errors in a video we add a correction to its description and pinned comment, and to its page here.

To report an error, email hello@thehimalayanledger.com with the video, the timestamp and what you think is wrong. We read every message.
